Developing A Growth Mindset
Let's talk positivity!
Easier said than done but so important! As we move through the traverse of life, it is critical to stretch and grow the muscle of our minds. More importantly, our minds are the make it or break it determining factor in whether or not we accomplish our goals. Even weight loss, fitness, or health goals. The mind is the most powerful tool and we have access to it 24/7. An intentional practice of a positive mindset can be so helpful in how we process difficulties, how we look at the action plan of our goals, how we address roadblocks and whether or not we ultimately succeed. Sing up for my upcoming Mindset Matters Masterclass to really gain some tools to help you lean into the growth mindset of success.
Here are three basic practices to growing your positive mindset:
1.) Start your day with gratitude.
I am not great at this ...I tend to THINK gratitude, but I am not yet consistent in writing down what I'm grateful for, which is a process I am challenging myself to do. Why? Because I genuinely believe in consistently writing your dreams into reality. The action of intentional gratitude encourages growth towards your dreams and goals. Putting what you're grateful for on paper lets us focus on what's positive, even in times of struggle. There are so many practices around this to figure out what works for you, but I encourage you to start your day (and honestly move throughout it or end it) with gratitude. Does this mean you should settle for where you are in life, never striving for better? Of course not! If you have dreams and aspirations, shoot for them with determined focus but in the meantime, between where you are now and where you want to recognize the blessings you currently have. Being grateful for what you have and where you allow you to embrace a growth mindset and forward-thinking, which helps facilitate the growth towards where you want to be. Details on how this is done in the most efficient and strategic way will be share in Mindset Matters.
2.) Words matter.
The words you speak matter to others obviously -but more importantly, the words you say to yourself and ABOUT yourself matter. Cognitive Behavioral Therapists believe we have the ability and power to change the outcome of our lives by challenging ourselves to change our thoughts. Moving throughout your day with a mindset of positivity will ultimately alter your mood and feelings throughout the day. Adapting the view ", I can" instead of "I have to" shifts the focus on what you are required to do into what you can do. I didn't invent this concept, but it resonates with me, so I am sharing it with you. This able-minded thinking leads directly to gratitude! Shifting into an ability of positive capabilities instead of negative generates motivation to get things done that perhaps you're not always in the mood to do. "I get to work out" really resonates differently than simply saying, "I have to go work out." Suddenly working out is a privilege and an opportunity that, quite frankly, many don't have. "I get to go to work" is a privilege. You have a job that, great or small, helps financially or otherwise in your life. You can silence (or at least turn the volume down) the negativity with positivity. Speaking your day's plan that prompts gratitude and opportunity are simple ways to constantly adjust your mindset and motivate you through your day-to-day activities.
3.) Control your ecosystem.
This is a hard one because sometimes we live with the negative. Mindset Matters shows how protecting your space and immediate surroundings is paramount to protecting your inner-peace. Granted, some situations cannot be controlled, such as a hostile or stressful work environment, for example. These are the situations in which the first two practices become critical. There is an amount of personal peace that we can control. Ensuring the people in our inner circle and the energy we allow ourselves into and around is filled with positivity plays an essential role in our power and attitude. By protecting our ecosystem, we cannot only limit negativity, but we are also able to fuel our space, mind, and body with productive and positive resources.
A growth mindset is not an easy thought process to achieve. It does not always come easily and must be intentionally practiced daily for these methods to become more natural, but by doing so, one can truly own their past, embrace their current, and own their future. As we continue to Warrior Forward, challenge yourself to practice these daily actions.
